We wanted to give this brief update on where we are with Project Ugnayan and our plan to feed 1.0 – 1.5 million families by providing supermarket gift certificates to the most economically vulnerable families in Greater Metro Manila (includes Rizal, Bulacan, Cavite, and Laguna). We are working in close partnership with Caritas Manila through its Project Damayan, Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF), and with ABS-CBN through its Pantawid ng Pagibig programs.

First of all, through your generosity we have raised pledges of P1.5 billion and collected P740.5 million as of today. Thank you for being a part of this.

More importantly, since Saturday, 21 March, Caritas and the parish priests have distributed P83.5 million in gift certificates to 83,500 families in the dioceses of Manila, Antipolo, Cubao, Imus (Cavite), Caloocan, Malolos (Bulacan), Novaliches, Paranaque, Pasig, and San Pablo (Laguna). That’s equivalent to 417,500 people served in just a few days.

At present Caritas has P28M in gift certificates for distribution. We will be augmenting that with another P35M in gift certificates tomorrow. By Sunday, 29 March, we will supply them with another P150M in gift certificates raising our total distribution to P296.5M. This will enable us to reach a total of 296,500 families or 1.48M people by weekend.

Additionally, P200M has been allocated to ABS-CBN’s Pantawid ng Pagibig program, which is also reaching to poor communities to distribute packs through Local Government Units.

All this would not have been possible without the business community coming together to pool its resources and its areas of expertise to make this happen. Could we encourage you to reach to your colleagues to join us in this important undertaking?

Once again, thank you for your generosity and we’ll keep you updated regularly.
