The country’s private sector–led by Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) and Metro Pacific Water–turned over a comprehensive study of the water situation in Marawi to Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBW) and the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) recently to assist in the rehabilitation of the battered city.
Conducted over a two-month period, the study points out locations for water sources and analyzes the existing infrastructure for delivering water to the city. It outlines several options that can be implemented to restore a regular water supply to residents. NEDA included the MPIC Water study in the Bangon Marawi Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Recovery Plan.
“Truly, there is no scarcity of goodness in this world. With the help of the study conducted by Metro Pacific Water together with Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation, the government now has a chance to bring clean and safe water to the homes of our kababayans in the entire Marawi City,” said TFBW Undersecretary Falconi Ace Millar.
“Water is one of the critical needs in the devastated area where 70,000 families live,” said PDRF president Rene “Butch” Meily.
PDRF, a private sector organization focused on disaster management, has been involved in Marawi recovery efforts starting with a medical mission in August 2017 and the formation of a United for Marawi consortium in October 2017. PDRF is co-chaired by PLDT and Metro Pacific Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan, Ayala Corp. Chairman and CEO Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, and Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle.
