Local airlines pledge support for Cebu quake relief operations

MANILA – Local carriers have confirmed their commitment to ongoing relief operations in Cebu following the devastation caused by the massive quake that struck the province on Sept. 30.

“Philippine Airlines, together with LT Group Inc., and in coordination with government agencies and private sector partners, is extending urgent assistance to our fellow Filipinos affected by the recent earthquake,” the flag carrier said in a statement Friday.

PAL said it is preparing to airlift essential goods, including fresh drinking water and other basic supplies, to sustain relief operations.

“These efforts will be undertaken within the capabilities of our available aircraft, as we carry out humanitarian missions alongside our regular flight schedules,” it added.

Low-cost carrier AirAsia Philippines also expressed full support, saying it would prioritize humanitarian transport missions to Cebu.

“In partnership with government agencies, non-government organizations, and the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation, AirAsia is working to ensure the safe and timely transport of emergency medical teams and essential supplies,” the airline said.

Cebu Pacific spokesperson Carmina Romero, meanwhile, confirmed that the carrier is accepting cargo relief to assist communities affected by the disaster.
