The Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF), in partnership with the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) and the Baguio City Office Environment and Parks Management Office and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, conducted the training on Advanced Geographic Information Systems using QGIS for select members of the city government on July 20-24, 2026.

Twenty-eight city government personnel successfully completed the 40-hour technical training  and are now certified on Advanced GIS.

“On behalf of our local government and the DRRM Council, we would like to extend our deepest appreciation sa team po ng PDRF, and of course sa team ng NAMRIA. Nagpapasalamat po kami sa inyo na walang sawa pong tumutulong sa amin para matapos ang mga maps namin. For the training, of course sa amin sa civil, makakatulong po ito—we have our technical team, so gagamitin po natin yan for our hazard mapping,” said one of the participants, Mr. Julius Santos, the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer II of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Conducted as part of the BRIDGE Project implementation, the training enhanced the participants’ technical competencies in geospatial analysis, mapping, and applying GIS tools to support the local government’s evidence-based planning, environmental management, and disaster risk reduction initiatives.

The Building Resilience through Inclusive Development and Gender Equality (BRIDGE) Project is implemented by PDRF to enhance the disaster and climate resilience of the cities of Antipolo and Baguio, by strengthening the integrated water resources management (IWRM) capacities of the communities and local institutions, and applying gender-responsive practices. This is made possible by the support of the Government of Canada through a funding grant under the Global Affairs Canada.

Following this successful run, BRIDGE Project is set to run the same training course for the local government of Antipolo in the coming months.
